Our Cooperative StoryWelcome to Cooperative Veterinary Care, a worker-owned cooperative made up of a passionate team at Spring Green and Mazomanie Animal Hospitals. For years, we’ve been dedicated to providing exceptional care for the furry family members in our communities. What is a Worker-Owned Cooperative? In a worker-owned cooperative, employees have the unique opportunity to become owners, sharing in both the benefits and responsibilities of business ownership. This structure fosters a strong sense of community and commitment to our mission. Our JourneyIn 2004, Drs. Mark Baenen and John Dally established Spring Green Animal Hospital. In early 2020, they joined forces with Dr. Ann Vetter to expand their vision by adding Mazomanie Animal Hospital. As they looked toward the future, they sought a way to ensure the continued success and community connection of both practices. Rather than succumbing to the growing trend of corporate buyouts, they chose to collaborate with their dedicated team and the UW Center for Cooperatives to create a sustainable, community-focused alternative. After a year of training and planning, Cooperative Veterinary Care was officially launched on January 1, 2023. This innovative model empowers each worker-owner with a voice: every member serves on the Board of Directors and has an equal vote in decision-making. Our consensus-based approach ensures that governance reflects the values and insights of those who provide daily care to our patients. A Commitment to CommunityOur cooperative structure means that profits are shared equitably among the worker-owners, reinforcing our commitment to the communities of Spring Green and Mazomanie. Unlike large corporations that prioritize distant shareholders, we prioritize the well-being of our patients and their families, ensuring that the heart of our practice remains local and responsive to community needs. Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we’re not just caring for animals; we’re building a better future for our community.
Thank you to UW Center for Cooperatives and Focal Flame for putting together this little video of our story! |
